you don’t have to be rastafarian for “dread” locks to have cultural significance to you
like why are people (black people included) who know nothing about locks offering their input…
black people that aren’t rastafari wear locks and get degraded, are required to cut them off to join any branch of the armed forces in america, are told they’re unprofessional, unclean, undesirable every day, through the media, to their faces, etc. that is something that has always been. that is the cultural significance beyond the spirituality.
that’s why it’s more than just a hairstyle
